Attack on this blog revealed

Over the last two months or so, some of you reported that my blog could not be accessed due to blacklisting by Google. Most of you read my blog through Fire Fox 3 browser. When this first happened, even I was unable to access my blog, so my trusty hosting provider, Chris Haslam of Ixis IT dully updated the wordpress to the latest version and removed some offending code. I updated the password and so for a time, the problem disappeared. Whilst I was on holiday, the blog seems to have had another attack and Google and FF3 continue to…

Following changes will be effective from today: Northern StartUp 2.0 Blog – Startups including events – Others are welcome to contribute, do let me know if you wish to blog about your startup, the Northern ecosystem, or lack of it. edocr.com – the progress of edocr Manoj Ranaweera.com – EIPP and other points of interest without extensively covering events and edocr Lately, this blog has covered more events than anything else. And it’s focus has become blurred and may no longer stand as a specialist blog. There is no synergy between startups and EIPP unless its EIPP startups. So, it…

NetStart – a candid chat with Lee Strafford

Last year, I attended a number of sessions organised by Lee Strafford to learn and if possible engage with his project NetStart (previously called Project Sahara). Today, I learned that after much time investment in engaging with Regional Development Agencies, Universities, Developers and other like minded individuals, Lee has come to the conclusion, that no one is willing to look at the bigger picture of creating an ecosystem and radically change. Let’s take a step back. My understanding of Project Sahara was: Create an environment where multiple startups can thrive within an ecosystem. The ecosystem will include, entrepreneurs, investors, deal…

Webmission08 – What a cracker!

Apologies for taking so long to write about the fabulous webmission08 tour to San Francisco. Having completed, it feels like an event that occurred months ago. The premise of capturing a daily journal did not quite happen as planned except on Day 1, thanks to JimL, OliB and the team keeping all of us very active, day and night. People have asked me what I got out of the tour! Some were very critical of web mission as they thought it was waste of tax payers’ money. If you read the small print, each of us paid for our flight,…

Bruno’s e-invoicing Quarterly

Here is the latest e-invoicing quarterly from Bruno Koch of Billentis. It’s almost customary for me to review Bruno’s e-invoicing quarterly, but have decided against it this time. However, I might pick couple of stories from e-invoicing quarterly and blog about them separately. References: Billentis joins the growing edocr Community Review of Bruno’s latest e-invoicing Quarterly… Copy of Bruno’s e-invoicing Quarterly ExPP Summit #1 – Assembly of e-invoicing community ExPP Summit is almost upon us Bruno’s ExPP Summit in London – confirming my attendance ExPP Summit in London – major annual European e-invoicing/EIPP event e-invoicing projections from Billentis Bruno Koch…

OpenCoffee Manchester is no more!

I am proud to have brought OpenCoffee to the North. First Manchester and then requesting Dean Sadler and Phil Blything to run Sheffield and Liverpool respectively. At the time, Imran Ali was thinking about running the same in Leeds. I convinced him to set the schedule for 1st Tuesday of the month. Manchester OpenCoffee never took off as intended. One reason perhaps was that I never gave 100% of making it a success as I was more serious about making Northern StartUp 2.0 a commercial success (at the time it was called NW StartUp 2.0 and it was free to…

Cracking the e-invoicing conundrum – finally!

Further to my previous post, I believe I cracked the conundrum attached to e-invoicing today! Now, do not get too excited, as I have not decided whether I am going to do anything about it. Most likely, I will park it for the time being. But let’s explore what the problem is in the first place. What is the biggest problem faced by the e-invoicing (EIPP) market? I argue that at the very top is the lack of market penetration. Paper documents continue to rule. Some of these are now replaced by e-mail attachments, but this does not solve the…

The role played by this blog in FundTech’s acquisition of Accountis

Whilst I cannot take any credit for the deal between FundTech and Accountis, I feel exhilarated at the service this blog provided in above acquisition. Here are some clues: OB10 #8 – Ready to be acquired! James Governor # 1 – Learning from a Pro I actually thought there was a blog post giving more clues, but perhaps not! I believe it all started at a pub near Manchester Airport, where I had the privilege to meet a Representative, who came to know me through this blog. We spoke about the industry, why e-invoicing has not taken off as it…

Tim re-unites with his baby (Tradex) and enters the world of blogging

Last week, I learned that Tim Cole, R&D Director of Causeway Technologies and Founder of Tradex has been given the task of growing Tradex into a mainstream e-invoicing hub. During the last year, the responsibility for Tradex changed many hands internally, causing immense confusion. Tim never gave up his involvement, but at the time, his main task was to manage the development centre in India, which was no easy task. In addition to realignment of resources, some of the existing staff has moved on, creating opportunities for new recruits to join and strengthen the team. Tim is a likeable chap,…
