LinkedIn Sagas: ‘I got too many contacts already’ – what do you mean by this?

Asked a young chap who just connected with me on LinkedIn and quickly thought I was weird as I wanted to know why he connected with me in the first place.

I have a large network. Anyone new added to this network needs to be meaningful. When someone requests to join just because they have mutual connections with me, come from Manchester or in so-called “tech”, that does not excite me.

What excites me is them knowing why they wanted to connect with me. This only happens if they have first undertaken some research, which could take 5 mins to 30 mins. It’s not that hard. If you are lazy, you can even ask ChatGPT about me.

I’m on LinkedIn for business. LinkedIn isn’t any other social network where you randomly connect with folks for socialising. At least, this is how I treat LinkedIn.

I help tech startups through Techcelerate, Deal Lite and SkilledUp Life. I’ll be turning 57 this year and have 20+ years of solid tech founder experience. If you want to connect with me, you should be connecting to get something out of this experience. That gets me excited.
