My latest #GetMeOutOfHere strategy

This is how I feel… I was born to do more. Yet I don’t have all the right tools to achieve it. So I must persevere.  So how am I going to persevere? Life’s passion – building technology companies. Helping others – helping other tech entrepreneurs grow their tech businesses through strategy, partnerships, integrations and more (do read on). Get a job – permanent, contract or interim. I have accumulated 15,000 contacts since 2004 (the year I started my tech entrepreneur journey). 5,000 of those are on Linkedin. Business friends see my networking abilities as my greatest USP. “To say we go back long…

Review of #SageSummit 2017 London

I had a great time attending #SageSummit 2017 in London on 6th April 2017. Whilst it’s nothing like Salesforce.com’s annual pilgrimage to the capital city of the UK, it was nevertheless a great opportunity for the Sage’s ecosystem to come together. General Observation Whilst I have known Sage since I entered the #Fintech world with my first tech startup, ebdex (2004 to 2006), this was the second time I attended a Sage conference (almost forgot the first time, which was in Manchester). The exhibition hall was well arranged and was beaming with participants. It was held at ExCeL London where all major…

What’s up with #GoSquared, a User Review?

Whilst visiting Hector Kolonas’ latest creation Co-Working Jobs, I noticed that he was using GoSquared for Chatting with web visitors. As I love trialling different chat services, thought of switching from Tawk to GoSquared. Turning Off Tawk This is easy, you just disable the widget from WordPress Admin panel. Installing GoSquared These days, its mandatory to have a Segment integration before I trial any service such as GoSquared. Create a GoSquared account. Make sure you have Segment installed in WordPress (which I had to). During the setup, click on Segment integration from GoSquared, select the applicable Workspace from Segment and follow the…

Profound location for content placement like no other

Today, we are all marketers and salesmen. This is specially true if you work for yourself or a startup. As we all become content generators, getting your target market’s attention to your messages become even more competitive. I have been a fan of Pocket, which allows you to easily save links of importance through a browser plugin. Their latest implementation means that the stories they promote, become the first read before you visit any of other famous news outlets, such as Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter.     This suddenly increases the influence Pocket has on content creators and advertisers. Given that…

SaaS market trends 2014 reviewed

In 2014, I predicted that the SaaS market will evolve as (in Quora): There will be greater debate on two tier systems, as more and more companies learn to live with on premise (including legacy) and SaaS, adopting a hybrid solutions. SaaS vendors will continue to be pulled in two directions, i.e. best of breed (single product) to multi product (driven by the need for greater revenues, e.g. Box). The middle market will continue to cause confusion due to products that specialise for smaller companies (no sales team), and the rest focusing on larger companies (sales team). The biggest land grab…

Xero – not an overnight success

These days, if you are a small business and looking for that vital accountancy software to help with your growth, Xero would most likely be in your shopping list, if not on the top of it. Those in the industry like myself, have been amazed at the growth of Xero, as they march towards their first million subscribers. Just like most companies, Xero’s success has not been an overnight success. Years of hard work fuelled with large sums of venture capital and public listings are now beginning to pay. Xero was founded in November 2006 with founder investment of NZ$1.5 million and listed…

Knowing when to stop selling – not Mr. NP

NP is known as a clever chap who has helped a number of tech companies grow. So I was eager to listen to his webinar yesterday to learn few marketing tips. He didn’t disappoint me. He came up with 5 points with new jargon, only an American would, but putting the terminology aside, they were good. Here goes: Lead magnate, e.g give them a white paper Trip wire, e.g. micro commitments Core offer Profit maximiser, e.g. upsell, cross sell, etc Automation All makes perfect sense. He sent a pre-video before the event, which spoke of the same, but during the webinar, the…

Manchester and North’s IT, Telecom & Tech Real Shakers and Movers

Whilst I was instrumental in developing the tech ecosystem of Manchester, its sometime hard to name top entrepreneurs and managers or companies from memory. With that in mind, I just created a public list of who’s who in Manchester and the North West, which can be accessed from here. Please suggest if I missed anyone. It is very much work in progress right now.

David Brierwood says banks would not be disrupted by tech companies

I had the rare opportunity to meet a famous MBA Alum, David Brierwood at Manchester Business School (MBA) this evening, when he delivered a speech on “Leadership and building your career for the long term”. David shared a fascinating story of how he joined Morgan Stanley and went on to become the Chief Operating Officer including meeting Nick Leeson before he joined the Bearings Bank. Afterwards I caught up with David to enquire about his thoughts on where the disruption to banks would come from. He is of the opinion that it would not come from tech companies such as Google…
