First 100 km ride in 2023

I’m still recovering from an unexpected 100 km ride yesterday. When I do not ride longer distances, I start to doubt myself. I went out yesterday hoping to improve from the previously longest ride in 2023, which was 55 km. My hope was for a 70 km ride, as I assumed I was unfit. If I plan to ride a long way, I normally go deep south with a pit stop at Holmes Chapel Costa. Yesterday’s ride was without a pit stop, i.e. no coffee and bacon butty. My wife and kids bought me an Apple Watch a few years…

A quick reintroduction to me

A quick introduction whilst I am here. I have been building tech companies and support businesses since 2004 with my fair share of failures. My 17 efforts are listed https://manojranaweera.me/who-is-manoj-ranaweera When I turned 50 about 5 years ago, I promised myself that I will build 5 businesses over the next 20 years. Here’s where I am today Community (know how): https://techcelerate.ventures – I speak about Techcelerate Way often these days. How can hooks be used with plugins that are not part of the theme within child themes in WordPress?

What ChatGPT said. In WordPress, hooks can be used to modify or extend the functionality of a plugin or theme without directly editing the plugin or theme files. To use hooks with plugins that are not part of the theme within child themes, follow these steps: Create a child theme: To create a child theme, create a new folder in the “wp-content/themes/” directory of your WordPress installation and name it whatever you want. Within this folder, create a style.css file and add the following code: /* Theme Name: Your Child Theme Name Template: Name of the Parent Theme */ Replace…

The New Gold!

Right now, the new gold seems to be in the data. Who has the most data on which AI Models can be run? Take edocr.com for example. They are sitting on so many documents. Just imagine unleashing ai models on extracted data from documents. Even Deal Lite has data. Our data sets are small due to our niche focus. Yet, it could have a greater value in the future. So, if you are building a business where there is data, whether extracted or not, you are accumulating gold. So keep doing what you do.

Cookies vs jwt authentication

I’m not a developer, but keen to understand Which one is the most used? Which one is the best? Which one is the latest? ChatGPT Response Cookies and JWT are two common methods for authentication in web applications. Here are some answers to your questions: The most used method for authentication is cookies. This is because cookies have been around for a long time and are widely supported by browsers and web servers. Many web frameworks and libraries also have built-in support for cookies. There is no single “best” method for authentication, as it largely depends on the specific requirements…

Collapse of Silicon Valley Bank

What happened? The Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) said on 8th March 2023, that it was planning to raise $2bn in capital after losses on bonds it sold. This spooked investors and customers which resulted in the share price drop by about 60% by the next day. This resulted in customers withdrawing cash rapidly resulting in a “bank run”. Share price continued to drop as a result. According to Claire Lee, ex SVB employee, This is a comedy of errors; without the comedy. Time of death: after questionable decisions and clumsy communications, panic ensued on March 9th — then clients withdrew…

Tool Hack: AWS WorkMail + Google WorkSpace Essentials

Since the dawn of Google Apps, which are now called Google Workspace, I had a free business account that Google no longer wants to offer free. Going from not paying to paying for 50 user accounts is not something my wallet would be happy to spend on. I’ve been scratching my head on how to find a no-cost or low-cost solution. Here’s what I found. Moving Email to AWS WorkMail If you have AWS Credits that last two years, you can move emails across to AWS WorkMail and use those credits to not pay for emails for up to 2…

David Lovett’s 18 year Journey and Exit

Just listened to the awesome story of David Lovett‘s Perceptive Engineering Exit story yesterday. Dave was brought in to lead a University spin-out in 2002. He raised investment, bought the investors and the university out through an MBO and Exited to Applied Materials. Dave and his team moved to Sci-Tech Daresbury just after me and a few early innovators in 2006. I left in 2011 and rejoined a few years back. Dave continued to leverage the campus all the way to the Exit. At the time of Exit, Dave owned 30% of equity, which in my book, is an awesome stake to hold. Dave also changed…
