I’m 56

I turned 56 today. All my efforts to stop the Yankees (United States of America) from hijacking my birthday to celebrate their so-called independence from the Brits have failed. On top of this, our premier, Rishi Sunak is ending his political career by holding UK elections today. You can see what I am up against, trying to get heard in this noisy environment, can’t you?

Longevity

When birthdays come, which seems to happen every 365 days, you start wondering what you have achieved all those years. In my case, 56 years. I always wanted to live for 100 years and be in the Centurian club one of my grandfathers landed in. But alas, my wife found out my birth time and paid some bloke in Sri Lanka to read my horoscope, which he didn’t have. He sent many voice recordings having read the stars using my birth time. According to this chap, I don’t seem to go past my 85th birthday. My dream is now shattered!

Family

Managing to keep my family intact is the proudest thing I have achieved so far. A tech entrepreneur’s life especially where one has failed so many times, can be very challenging. Many of my friends have divorced. I married my pen pal with whom I fell in love. She was introduced to me by my first girlfriend – a good way of getting rid of me. Weird eh! My wife finally gave up trying to get me a steady full-time job. Both my kids, two girls have grown up. The youngest is still at University. We have challenges just like any other family but intact as a unit. Thank you for putting up with me all these years.

Work

I got hooked on the world of tech startups 20 years ago. I joined a London-based tech startup as an investor employee in Sep 2004 just after submitting my M&A Report, the last project of the Executive MBA I undertook at Manchester Business School. Since then, I have founded and failed several times as a tech entrepreneur. I also had two Exits, the last being in 2015.

Present and the future

My life is dedicated to building tech companies and helping others to do the same, hopefully with fewer mistakes than I did and do. Unlike in the past and thanks to SkilledUp Life, you no longer need to be alone in your tech founder journey. If you need to acquire the know-how to build your tech startup, you have Techcelerate on your side. You can find the best-aligned investors from Deal Lite. I will continue to focus on building three ventures into successful businesses.

Oh, SkilledUp Life is my first attempt to build a truly global venture on a shoestring. We are making a significant difference to individuals all across the world. Thank you all for being part of this lovely family.

Thank you, everyone.

PS: My family is fussy about me sharing family pictures. The young cyclist and the wife finally gave permission. Sadly, no consent from the eldest daughter. I’m still waiting for the birthday cake.
