LinkedIn Sagas: Connecting for Network effect

Sorry, not for me. Life is too short. I don’t do introductions nor do I ask for introductions. I am only interested in those who connect with me and not their network. Instead of just connecting, give me a quick introduction including your websites, so that I could understand who you are and what you do. Think about this as an elevator pitch (not for investment obviously). I believe this is a good start for any virtual business relationship.

LinkedIn Sagas: ‘I got too many contacts already’ – what do you mean by this?

Asked a young chap who just connected with me on LinkedIn and quickly thought I was weird as I wanted to know why he connected with me in the first place. I have a large network. Anyone new added to this network needs to be meaningful. When someone requests to join just because they have mutual connections with me, come from Manchester or in so-called “tech”, that does not excite me. What excites me is them knowing why they wanted to connect with me. This only happens if they have first undertaken some research, which could take 5 mins to…

Tide Bank multiple accounts

I have been a customer since the start of Tide Bank many years ago. Just noticed extra banking charges on additional accounts, which until recently were free. It seems the rule change was brought in recently, which I was unaware of until now.If you have been banking with Tide for a long time and were unaware of this, it’s worth checking your account to decide whether to retain them or not, and if retained pay extra charges. I reckon Tide is driving everyone to move to paid accounts from free. If you have many transactions, you might be better off…

Deepseek – the media sensation

Everyone is talking about Deepseek. I’m particularly interested in how they became a media (marketing) sensation overnight. I’ll try to share what I can find here. 10th Jan – launch on iOS and Android 13th Jan – Pandaily reported the story first. 27th Jan – Surpassed ChatGPT to become the most downloaded free app on the U.S. iOS App Store. 28th Jan – Major news outlets started reporting, especially the drop in Nvidia’s market share. I’m interested in exploring whether mere mortals like me and Techcelerate Tech Founders can extract anything that could be repeated to achieve overnight success for…

My biggest error with SkilledUp Life

This is more of a historical note to myself. Early Success I hacked WordPress (Version 1) and went live in 3 days. This was an awesome result as I did everything myself from the end of July 2020 to November 2020. I wanted to reach £10k MRR before we ditched the WordPress hack. We never achieved this. I tried hard but without product innovation it became impossible. I thought it would be harder to replace Version 1 by replacing it with our own coded solution. This is where I went wrong. Version 2 with WordPress I searched for a better…

G7 vs multipolar world – Is UK screwed?

Once a global super power, UK’s prominence in the world continue to decline. Then we had the audacity to pull out from the EU further alienating us from our closest neighbours – the EU countries.  We are the best friend of the USA. We rely on them for defence. This means we have no independence to make unilateral decisions. They also screw us on trade from time to time.  The world is fast changing and becoming G7 vs the multipolar world champion by the original BRICS nations.  13 new countries joined BRICS this week. Sri Lanka where I am from…

Switching to war mode from sailing mode

No idea what the industry acronyms are, but I decided we need to drastically change our focus at SkilledUp Life if we are to survive until Version 2 is ready sometime in the future. Sailing mode Since our inception, our key focus has been to focus on the supply side of the two-sided marketplace, i.e. volunteer end. Whilst I am not satisfied with our performance, we have nevertheless managed to build a volunteer pool of 50,000 from 140 countries. We generated revenue from day 1 but never really hit our targets. We have significant churn due to many reasons. War…

I’m 56

I turned 56 today. All my efforts to stop the Yankees (United States of America) from hijacking my birthday to celebrate their so-called independence from the Brits have failed. On top of this, our premier, Rishi Sunak is ending his political career by holding UK elections today. You can see what I am up against, trying to get heard in this noisy environment, can’t you? Longevity When birthdays come, which seems to happen every 365 days, you start wondering what you have achieved all those years. In my case, 56 years. I always wanted to live for 100 years and…
